Gulfstream G800 Breaks Records with Farthest, Fastest Flight in Business Aviation History

Gulfstream G800 Breaks Records with Farthest, Fastest Flight in Business Aviation History

Gulfstream Aerospace has announced two major milestones for its G800 business jet: the aircraft set Gulfstream's 800th city-pair speed record, and separately completed the farthest fastest flight in business aviation history. Together, the achievements signal a new benchmark for range and speed in the ultra-long-range aircraft category.

The 800th city-pair speed record was set on a flight from Reykjavik, Iceland to Savannah, Georgia, covering 2,973 nautical miles in 5 hours and 52 minutes at an average cruise speed of Mach 0.91.

In a separate milestone on June 28, the G800 achieved another milestone in business aviation history, flying from Melbourne, Australia to Moline, Illinois – a distance of 8,303 nautical miles covered in 16 hours and 56 minutes at an average cruise speed of Mach 0.85. With these achievements, Gulfstream's entire fleet has now accumulated 815 city-pair speed records, with the G800 responsible for 15 of those since entering service.

A Milestone Centuries in the Making

The number carries symbolic weight for the Savannah, Georgia-based manufacturer. Reaching 800 city-pair speed records with the aircraft that bears the same numeric designation offered Gulfstream a fitting moment to highlight its performance history. The company has built its reputation on aircraft that fly farther and faster than competitors, and the G800 continues that pattern.

Mark Burns, president of Gulfstream, addressed the achievement in a statement released by the company. He noted the significance of the flights for both the aircraft program and the broader business aviation sector, pointing to the G800's ability to link distant markets with fewer stops and shorter travel times.

Inside the G800

The G800 sits at the top of Gulfstream's fleet, designed to offer the longest range in the manufacturer's lineup. The aircraft can fly 8,200 nautical miles at Mach 0.85 or 7,000 nautical miles at Mach 0.90, according to published specifications. It uses Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines and shares a cabin design with the G700, featuring 16 of the manufacturer's signature Panoramic Oval Windows.

The cabin can be configured with up to four living areas, or three living areas and a dedicated crew compartment, giving operators flexibility for ultra-long missions. Gulfstream markets the aircraft as a solution for operators who need to connect city pairs such as Los Angeles to Melbourne or Dubai to Houston without refueling stops.

Certification and Delivery

The G800 received FAA and EASA type certification in April 2025, with first customer deliveries beginning in August 2025. The aircraft entered service alongside its stablemate, the G700, which achieved certification in 2024.

The Melbourne to Moline record flight carried particular operational significance. By departing from Australia and arriving in Illinois nonstop, the G800 demonstrated a range capability that covers some of the most demanding city pairs in the world. For corporate operators and heads of state, that kind of nonstop capability reduces travel time and expands the reach of a single aircraft.

What It Means for Business Aviation

City-pair speed records serve as a practical measure of what an aircraft can do in real-world conditions. Manufacturers use these flights to prove that published specifications translate into actual performance. For buyers evaluating multimillion-dollar aircraft, that distinction matters.

The G800's performance places pressure on competitors in the ultra-long-range segment, including Bombardier's Global 8000, which the Canadian manufacturer has positioned as its flagship long-range offering. The competition between Gulfstream and Bombardier at the top end of the market continues to push both companies toward faster speeds and longer ranges.

Gulfstream indicated it will continue pursuing additional speed records with the G800 as the aircraft enters wider service with customers around the world.
